Smartboards

One piece of evidence that I thought was interesting about the article was that it taught to all learning styles.

"Every day, educators strive to develop strategies and
tools that will reach students with unique or diverse
learning needs. Many of these learning styles – even the
requirements of visual, hearing-impaired and other special-
needs students – can be addressed when lesson
delivery and learning activities incorporate use of an interactive whiteboard."

Today we were to find a webquest that we would change. I chose What does Dewey Do?. I would change the graphics because the are very plain and I do not feel they would grab the students attenetion. There is no task or process listed. This also would have to be changed.
This will meet Library Media Contenet Standard 1 which states student will become information literate by accessing information effeciently and effectively.

Our group decided that Unraveling the Underground Railroad is the best webquest. I agree with this because although it showed a lot of teamwork the students also had to work indivually doing research. Therefore not one student is doing all the work. It also displayed good graphics and was very clear and concise. I believe the students will enjoy doing this activity and everyone must participate.

Today we reviewed webquest. I believe this meets ISTE Standard 2a. This meets the standard because it is technology based that promotes the student to explore individual curiosities but alos encourages them to work in groups. The students set goals that they outlined for the project.

I think the most important thing I have done outside of school is trying to teach my children the correct use of the internet. By teaching my son how to research information that he uses in his classroom I hav met ISTE NET Standard 3d.

I don't remember doing anything in my K-12 experience that would meet the ISTE standards. When I graduated we didn't even have computers in our school and noone had heard of texting or blogging.

Day 6 2/4/2010

Today we communicated to a group of fifth graders through skype. This meets ISTE NET standard 4a. By answering the children's questions about social networking we were teaching them safe, legal, and ethical use of digital technology. I think this was a great tool to teach us the use of skype. This also was a great tool to teach children the safe use of networking as well as skype. By teaching children how to use this safely we can cut down on the amount of students who are prayed upon. This is an important life skill that should not only be taught by teachers but anyone who is involved in the child's life.

Day 4 1/28/2010

Today we joined a facebook group. I think this is very beneficial in education. I feel this is a great tool to communicate to students, educators, and parents in a digital way. I think all involved will feel free to post creative ideas whereas most are afraid to in a face-to-face setting. This is meeting ISTE NET Standard 3c. Using this in a classroom would allow a techer to reallt get to know both students and parents. I believe that know them makes it much easier to teach them!
